Indian Transgender Man, Shivy Describes How His Parents Tried to Fix His Marriage

Few Days ago BBC posted an article that Delhi court has given police protection to a transgender man from the US as according to him, his parents tried to forcibly marry him off to a man by tricking him coming to India on holiday.

Delhi High Court termed the alleged harassment as nothing short of ‘bigotry’ and has granted him police protection.

Here is something the Transgender Man, Shivy has to say about the harassment he is facing even after the court has granted him police protection.

This is an appeal from Shivy to his parents, relatives, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police.

Shivy, 19 years old, is a citizen of India and a resident of United States. He is enrolled in the Neurobiology programme at the university of California, Davis. Shivy identifies as a transgendered person who prefers ‘he’ as a pronoun. His parents are wrongfully depriving him of his passport and green card, all in violation of his essential constitutional rights.

Queer activists in Delhi who helped him escape from his natal home in Agra are currently being harassed, intimidated, and wrongfully accused of kidnapping Shivy by Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police.

Yesterday, Shivy, with help from his lawyers moved to Delhi High Court seeking protection from harassment, intimidation, and coercion and asking for return of his passport and green card. The judge in a remarkable judgement granted Shivy and his friends protection from any harassment by the police. The order from the Delhi High Court was communicated to his parents who have acknowledged receiving the order. Inspite of this, the Police is continuing to harass activists involved in this case.
